NHS App - Update on Access to Historic Medical Records

We would like to provide a further update regarding access to historic medical records via the NHS App.

Following our previous communication, we are pleased to confirm that we have identified a safe and effective solution to restore access to historic records. Before this can be implemented, several system updates and checks must be completed to ensure information is shared appropriately and in line with safeguarding requirements.

As part of this work, some patients who were previously registered at Luson Surgery and had online access may receive a text message advising that their online access has been updated. Please be reassured that this is part of the work being carried out behind the scenes and does not yet mean that full access to historic records has been restored.

When patients register with or transfer to a GP practice, their online access automatically resets. This means patients can usually only view information recorded from their registration or transfer date onwards (prospective access), rather than their full historic record.

Once this work is complete, patients who transferred from Luson Surgery will continue to have prospective access from their transfer date. Patients who were registered with Wellington Medical Centre before the transfer will have their historic online access restored to the level they previously held.

We would like to reassure patients that their medical records have not been lost. All records remain safely stored within our clinical system and continue to be available to practice staff when required for patient care.

Patients who were previously registered at Luson Surgery and would like access to their historic records can still apply by attending the surgery, completing a short application form, and providing identification. Due to the anticipated volume of requests, there may be delays while applications are processed safely and appropriately.

If you have already submitted an application for historic record access, please do not submit another. We have retained all previous requests and will begin working through these once the work required to reopen access has been completed. There is therefore no need to complete another form or submit a duplicate request.

We understand how important it is for patients to be able to view their medical information online and appreciate your patience while we complete this final stage of work. We hope to provide a further update soon.

In the meantime, the NHS App continues to function as normal for:

Ordering repeat prescriptions
Contacting the surgery about a health concern or administrative query
Viewing results of tests taken after 30th September

Staff Training Closures

Dear Patients

This is to inform you that once a month, on the following dates the practice will be closed from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm for staff training and development:

No Training Closures in December

During this time if you need a doctor in an emergency please dial 999 or if you need urgent advice please dial 111. Alternatively, you can ring our usual telephone number where you will hear advice.
